What helps me with my low vision - there are many types of low vision, and many types of Retinitis Pigmentosa. A medical evaluation and assessment by social services is needed to determine how each person with low vision sees, and how best to help them. For me, my best vision is central vision, if the scene is bright and high contrast. These are the items I use on a daily basis to help my low vision:
Looking through a quality smartphone camera with the display brightness all the way up to the highest level (To bring any scene up to the highest brightness and contrast - latest models or 1 to 2 versions back for Google, Samsung, Apple)
Very bright, large, monitors and TVs (I find that 500 nits of brightness is the minimum level I need to create very bright scenes. Higher is better)
Handheld viewer / magnifier (For reading print, and focused activities)
Rechargeable Lanterns (To light an area I use 4 of these at the same time)
NVDA Screen Reader (For reading large amounts of text)
